Contents Page Research and Analysis

Contents page conclusion
After analysing the three contents pages I came to the conclusion that all contents pages are different depending on the type of magazine it is. Each magazine follows a completely different style compared to the other, I will follow this individual style when making my magazine and in order to complete this different style I will incorporate none or little of the styles above and instead I will use my own.

Double Page Spread Research and Analysis

Double page spread conclusion
After analysing the three double page spreads I have concluded that, similarly to the contents page, each magazine has its own individual look, layout and style depending on what its audience and genre it is. My magazine will follow a few features from each of the double page spreads above however it will mostly rely on my own ideas and imagination.
I will follow the traditional style for the double page spread with the main image on the left hand side and the article along the right hand side however I wish to add a similar image layout as the last double page spread on the right hand side as I find this intriguing and different.
I will also include a pull quote which most double spreads include to intrigue the audience.
After this my double page spread will be left to imagination to help make my magazine different and follow it's own style like the three above also do.

Front Cover Research and Analysis

Front Page conclusion
After analysing these front pages I have come to the conclusion that my front page will include the best parts of these magazines. I have learnt that each magazine follows an individual style however they all include parts of each other. For example, all three magazine covers follow the traditional style of the main image being the main story along with the main subjects name being the largest and typically the most bold font on the page. I will incorporate this into my magazine and also follow this traditional style. What helps make these magazine covers different is where the subjects name is placed, this helps give the magazine originality and make it more personal to its name, I will also incorporate this which will help my magazine have an original and professional look and feel to it.
From these magazine covers I have also concluded that each cover follows a specific colour-scheme and house-style which again helps the cover gain originality. This also helps gain the specific audiences attention. For example the Q Magazine uses feminine colours along with feminine fonts which attract a feminine audience. I will follow a similar example when making my magazine to gain my specific audience's name.
Finally, the last feature I will follow from the magazine front covers is the left side third along with the different fonts and sizes which give a hierarchy subject to the magazine as there's the top or main story, the sub-stories and then smaller things such as advertisements etc. I will follow this rule in my magazine.
I will follow all traditional styles pointed out in my front cover analysis' however I will combine my own thoughts and ideas into my magazine front cover to give it it's own look and feel and therefore attracting its own specific audience.

Summary

For my college magazine, I chose the image of Sophie holding a book in the library. I chose this because I felt this best suited the college magazine as it's inside the college and shows college facilities. I also chose this photo as it's a medium shot which shows half her body and her face. She is smiling on the picture which also gives the magazine a friendly and somewhat happy feel.

I chose the headline "Bede Bulletin" for my college magazine, I chose this because it's alliteration which gives an upbeat tone to the magazine and also because I thought it was something which addressed its whole audience. I chose the put the header in the Sunderland College logo colours to promote the college theme and also create a theme for which I myself could follow for the magazine, this is also why I put the Sunderland College logo alongside the header. I chose the colours for my whole magazine based on the Sunderland College logo, blue, teal, black and white. The font I used was Arial Black this is because I thought this was an attraction to the eye yet wasn't too fancy or took any attention away from the main image or the stories on the front page.

I  chose the stories for my magazine based on some current events which are happening in the college e.g Costa and Enrichment. I also chose them because I feel this is what would most appeal to the audience. I chose to put them in Comic Sans because this font is understood by most people and doesn't distort words in any way which keeps it easier to read. I chose to put what I felt would attract a lot of readers in a coloured box so it's more eye-catching as this is what I feel would attract the most readers. The rest of the stories are in a simple black or white comic sans font to contrast with the background.

I put a twitter and facebook logo on the front of my magazine as I believe this would also appeal to the audience as most teenagers have either or both of these social networking sites and would therefore be of interest to them.

For my contents I followed a similar layout for the contents page and for the exact reasons I have explained above.
